Seagal began studying martial arts in his youth, training under Fumio Demura. Notably, he became the first foreigner to operate an aikido dojo in Japan.
Seagal made his film debut in 1988 with Above the Law, which showcased his martial arts skills. He gained prominence with subsequent films like Hard to Kill (1990), Marked for Death (1990), and Under Siege (1992). His characters often portrayed stoic, invincible heroes. In 1996's Executive Decision, Seagal's character dies early in the film, marking a departure from his typical roles.
